ALFRED KOECh

(kenya)

Alfred is a middle distance runner, former athletics Captain at Edith Cowan University (ECU) and an aspiring Olympian.

He has served as the Vice President to the Kenyan Community in Western Australia (KCWA).

ALPHONSE MULUMBA (DRC)

Alphonse is a speaker, presenter, academic researcher and consultant.

His areas of work include multiculturalism & diversity, leadership, civiv engagement, political leadership, African and Australian politics.

Alphonse is a candidate for Balga Ward Councillor and aims to give a voice to the underprivileged in the community.

He wishes more people knew that Africa is "more politically advanced than we think".

FADZI WHANDE (ZIMBABWE)

Fadzi is an award winning Global Diversity and Inclusion Strategist and Social Justice Advocate.

She has worked across the not for profit, government and business sectors in Africa, Australia, United Kingdom and the United States.

She currently works as the Principal Consultant Workforce Diversity for the Public Sector Commission.

She is the recipient of the 2019 Social Impact Award from the Organisation of African Communities, a finalist in the 2018 Western Australian of the Year, Australia Day Ambassador and recipient of the 2016 International Racial Equity Leadership Award in the USA.

She is also an alumna of the 2019 Duke of Edinburgh Commonwealth Senior Leadership Program.

LINDA IRIZA (RWANDA)

Linda has studied a double degree in marketing and economics.

She is proud of her Rwandese heritage and represented her country in Miss Africa Perth 2018.

She is founder of Nuru Tours, an organisation which unites the people of Africa and her diaspora.

Nuru aims to emphasise that in order to truly have a positive impact in Africa, you have to experience it firsthand.

LUETH GARANG (SOUTH SUDAN)

Lueth is a qualified primary school teacher and the founder of Lueth’s Private Tutoring Service. She holds a Bachelors Degree of Education in Primary Teaching from Murdoch University.

Her experience going through the Australian Education system made her identify a gap in learning for children of African backgrounds. This led her to start her own tutoring program, which aims to inspire, uplift and empower the next generation of leaders.

MUHAMMAD DAN SULEIMAN (GHANA)

Muhammad is a Research Fellow and key member of the UWA Africa Research and Engagement Centre (AfREC).

At UWA, he teaches units on the international politics of Africa, peace and security in Africa, and foreign policy and international relations.

Muhammad will challenge the notion that African countries (and their leaders) are any more corrupt than those of the so-called developed world.

OUMOU BAH (MALI)

Oumou was born in Ivory Coast and spent some time in Guinea and Mali before moving to Australia.

She has lived in Australia (Perth) for 6 years, is married and has a 5 year old daughter.

She has a background in Real Estate as a Property Manager, enjoys cooking, meeting people, dancing and also does some modelling.

One thing she wishes people knew about Africa is the “warm welcome” we give to our visitors no matter who they are or where they come from.

WENDY TREASURE (AUSTRALIA)

Wendy Treasure is a specialist resources lawyer, mentor, project manager, lecturer, researcher and occasional journal editor.

She has a background in native title law in Canada and Australia, advised on reform of the Libyan mining industry, established a mining law and policy education project in Ghana, and more recently has published on the comparative impact of mining on heritage and customary law in Ghana and Western Australia.

Wendy’s talk will focus on “The rise of the African mining entrepreneur”.
